There are so many beautiful locations in Italy that it’s sometimes difficult to decide where to go. We’ve compiled a list of 10 Italian destinations, most of which have pictures found on our New York City Travel Show raffle card, that you definitely shouldn’t miss!   1. Chamonix: Chamonix is a quaint French town that sits on the Italian border in the Alps. The ski trails there are rated as some of the best in the world. It is the sister city of Italy’s Courmayeur and was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Tour: Via Aosta
  2. Lipari: Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago off the northern coast of Sicily. It, like so many other destinations our tours visit, is preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lipari is known for its beaches and its scenic, historic Greek and Roman ruins, which are well preserved at the Diana District Archaeological Park. Tour: Via Sicily
  3. Volterra: Volterra is a town in Tuscany that is known for its stunning architecture and Renaissance palaces. There are Etruscan remains, such as burial grounds and amphitheaters, throughout the city. Volterra’s 800-year-old city hall claims to be the oldest in Tuscany and its massive arch, built in the 4th century B.C., is the oldest standing Etruscan gate. Tour: Via Tuscany

  5. Courmayeur: Courmayeur is a town in the Aosta Valley at the base of Mont Blanc, the highest point in Western Europe. Its picturesque mountain scenery makes it an attractive destination for skiers and non-skiers alike. The town is also home to Europe’s highest botanical garden and shares access to the famous glacial ski run of the Vallee Blanche. Tour: Via Aosta
  6. Matera: Matera is an exciting historic location in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy. It is home to the famous sassi, or cave dwellings, and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Matera’s historic district is comprised of gorgeous ancient architecture and cobblestone streets that truly make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.   7. Greve in Chianti: Chianti is a region in Tuscany that is best known, of course, for its wine production, but it is so much more than that. The city of Greve is a medieval town that still preserves its history. It has the wine tours that make the Chianti region famous, and ancient churches and other architecture that make it an ideal destination for anyone who wants to get a real taste of Italy.   8. Messina: Messina is a city in Sicily that is best known as the door of Sicily. It is full of striking architecture, including churches, botanical gardens, lighthouses, and several fountains that are considered important city monuments. The Contemporary Art Gallery of Messina houses several famous works by Caravaggio and Antonello da Messina. Tour: Via Sicily
  9. Taormina: Taormina is a small town on the east coast of Sicily. It is on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea and is only a 45 minute drive from Mt. Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano. Aside from its numerous Greek ruins—including an ancient Greek theatre—Taormina is also home to old churches, fine restaurants, outstanding antique shops, and an exciting nightlife. Tour: Via Sicily
  10. San Gimignano: San Gimignano is a walled, medieval hill town in Tuscany. It is also known as the Town of Fine Towers and is famous for its medieval architecture and “unforgettable skyline.” The town center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Aside from its amazing architecture, San Gimignano is also known for the white wine that is made from the grapes grown on the sandstone hillsides of the area. Tour: Via Tuscany
